Meet Dr. Joshua Visalli

Dr. Joshua Visalli was born and raised in Deerfield. After graduating from Whitesboro High School, he chose to stay local and attend Utica College, where he studied biology and played for the Pioneers football team. Dr. V attended Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. His 4 years of optometry schooling brought him to various eye care settings, including time at a VA hospital, independent optometry practices, and various mixed ophthalmology and optometry practices. Dr. V has been privileged to live in a few states on the east coast while working in different eye care settings for the first 8 years of his career. For his first 2 years of practice, he provided care for pediatric patients only, working alongside a pediatric ophthalmologist. From there, he worked in a large ophthalmology practice near Scranton, PA. His final stop was at a large independent optometry office in Kittery, Maine. Moving home to Utica has allowed Dr. V to use his previous experience and skills to start a new practice serving the areas he has always called home. Dr. Visalli is married to his wife Meghan (also a native of the area) and has a son, Luca. Four-legged friends, Roxy and Thor, complete the family.

FAQs

Annual eye exams play an important role in maintaining both vision and overall eye health. During an exam, the optometrist evaluates your vision, checks for prescription changes, and examines the health of your eyes. Regular eye exams can also help detect conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease before symptoms appear.

Gateway Eye Care emphasizes the importance of pediatric eye care for early detection of vision problems. According to the information provided, the American Optometric Association recommends that children receive an eye exam between 6–12 months, at age 3, and again before starting kindergarten to support healthy visual development and learning.

A contact lens exam includes evaluating your overall eye health, tear film, and cornea measurements to help determine the best lens fit. Gateway Eye Care offers personalized contact lens fittings designed to provide optimal vision, comfort, and eye health, whether you are new to contact lenses or have worn them for years.

Yes. Gateway Eye Care provides emergency eye care for urgent situations such as eye pain, infections, sudden vision changes, chemical exposure, foreign objects in the eye, and sudden onset of flashes or floaters. The practice encourages patients experiencing an eye emergency to contact the office right away for evaluation and appropriate care.

Gateway Eye Care offers glaucoma screening and monitoring to help identify and manage this condition. The practice explains that glaucoma can damage the optic nerve and lead to progressive vision loss if left untreated. Regular eye exams are highlighted as an important way to help detect glaucoma and monitor eye health over time.

Gateway Eye Care provides dry eye care for symptoms such as irritation, burning, redness, blurry vision, watery eyes, and sensitivity to light. Treatment options may include medical therapy, punctal plugs, and other dry eye-specific care designed to address both evaporative dry eye and tear-deficient dry eye while improving comfort and eye health.
